Terms of use
Car Assist and OBD Cloud Assistant · last updated 26 October 2026
These terms are between you and Jonathan Merriweather ("we"), who runs Car Assist and OBD Cloud Assistant. By using them you agree to these terms. The App Store's own terms apply to downloading the app and to buying diagnoses.
What the service is
Car Assist reads your car through an OBD adapter and helps you find what's wrong with it, with an AI assistant in OBD Cloud Assistant, our online service. The assistant's findings and suggested fixes are information to help you, not a mechanic's inspection. It can be wrong, and it only knows what your car reports and what you tell it. Have a qualified mechanic check anything that affects the car's safety (brakes, steering, tyres, airbags, fuel leaks, overheating) before you drive it.
Using it safely
- Don't use the app while you're driving. Ask someone else, or pull over.
- When the assistant asks you to check something at the car, only do it if it's safe: the car secure, the engine off unless it says otherwise, and away from moving parts and hot surfaces.
- Tests that change what the car does need your confirmation in the app first. Don't confirm one unless you understand it and the car is safe to run it.
OBD Cloud Assistant and your diagnoses
- OBD Cloud Assistant is used in diagnoses. A diagnosis is one session with the assistant about a fault, however long it takes; a session uses one when you first ask the assistant something in it. Opening a session, recording a drive and reading your car don't use one.
- Your first diagnosis is free. After that you buy diagnoses through the App Store, one at a time or in packs.
- A very long diagnosis may reach a limit, where the assistant wraps up what it has found. You can then continue with another of your diagnoses, or stop.
- Your diagnoses don't expire, can only be used for OBD Cloud Assistant, and can't be exchanged for cash or moved to someone else.
- Refunds of purchases are handled by Apple. If Apple refunds one, we take back the diagnoses it added, as far as they're unused.
- We may change prices for future purchases. A change never takes away diagnoses you already have.
Your account
Keep your phone secure: anyone using a phone signed in to your account can use your diagnoses. You can delete your account at any time in the app, which deletes your sessions and any diagnoses left in it.
Fair use
Don't use the service to break the law, to attack or overload it, to get around its limits or billing, or for anything other than diagnosing vehicles. We may suspend an account that does, and refund any unused diagnoses where the law requires.
Availability
We aim to keep OBD Cloud Assistant running, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for example for maintenance or when our AI provider is down.
Your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes the consumer guarantees and other rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other law that can't be excluded. Subject to those rights, we aren't liable for loss caused by acting on the assistant's suggestions without a qualified mechanic's check, and our liability for anything else is limited to supplying the service again or refunding what you paid for it.
Changes and law
We may update these terms; the date above changes when we do, and the app tells you of important changes. These terms are governed by the law of Victoria, Australia.
